Privacy & FAQ

Your camera video never leaves your device. Every frame is analysed in your browser and then discarded. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is recorded, and there is no server to send it to — PiercedUp is a static site with no backend, no database, and no accounts.
PiercedUp uses affiliate links. The "Shop this piece" button goes to OUFER Body Jewelry through an affiliate link, and we earn a commission on purchases made through it — at no extra cost to you. How the shop links work.
What happens to your video
When you allow camera access, the video stream is handed to MediaPipe FaceMesh, a face-tracking library that runs as WebAssembly inside your browser tab. It works out where your nose, brows and lips are, and the app draws jewelry over those points on a canvas. All of that happens on your own machine, frame by frame.
- No video, image, or face data is uploaded or transmitted anywhere.
- Nothing is written to a server, because there is no server-side component.
- Frames are not retained after they are drawn — there is no recording buffer and no history.
- Face landmarks are numbers held in memory for the life of the page. Closing or reloading the tab discards them.
Photos you take
Pressing the shutter composites the current frame and jewelry into a PNG and hands it to your browser as a download. That file goes wherever your browser saves downloads, on your own device. It is never sent anywhere.
Adjustments you make
Position, size and rotation tweaks live in the page's memory for the session only. They are not saved to cookies, local storage, or any server, and they are gone when you reload.
Personal data
PiercedUp collects no personal data. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no forms, no email capture, and no contact fields. The app sets no cookies and writes nothing to local storage.
Analytics and tracking
There are none. This site runs no analytics of any kind — no Google Analytics, no Plausible, Fathom, Umami, or similar; no tracking pixels; no advertising or remarketing scripts; no session recording; no fingerprinting. If that ever changes, this section will name the provider before it ships.
Third parties that do see a request
Being straight about this: loading any web page reveals your IP address and browser user-agent to whoever serves the files. PiercedUp pulls from three origins, and none of them receive your video or face data — only the ordinary metadata attached to a file request.
- GitHub Pages hosts the site and serves the HTML, JavaScript and jewelry images. GitHub keeps its own server logs.
- jsDelivr (cdn.jsdelivr.net) serves the MediaPipe library and its WebAssembly model files.
- Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com) serves two webfonts.
- OUFER Body Jewelry (ouferbodyjewelry.com) — but only if you click "Shop this piece". Nothing is requested from OUFER while you are just using the try-on, and the link carries our referral code and nothing about you. Once you land there you are on their site under their privacy policy.
Camera permission
Your browser controls camera access, not this app. Permission is asked once per site and you can revoke it at any time from the padlock or camera icon in the address bar. Denying it stops the try-on from working, but nothing else on the page changes.
Frequently asked
Is my video stored or uploaded?
No. It is processed frame by frame in your browser and discarded. There is no upload step and no server that could receive it. If you would rather verify than take our word for it, open your browser's developer tools, watch the Network tab, and note that no request carries video data.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes, on a reasonably recent phone. It uses the front-facing camera, and the layout drops the desktop phone-bezel frame and fills the screen on narrow displays. Face tracking is real work for a phone CPU, so older or budget handsets may run at a lower frame rate. iOS requires Safari 15 or newer.
Do I need to install anything?
No. There is no app to download, no extension, no plugin, and no account. Open the page, allow camera access, and it runs. It needs an internet connection to load the page and the tracking library.
How do the shop links work?
Affiliate disclosure: PiercedUp uses affiliate links, and we earn a commission from purchases made through them, at no extra cost to you. The "Shop this piece" button opens the matching product on OUFER Body Jewelry (ouferbodyjewelry.com) through an affiliate link that carries our referral code. If you buy on that visit, OUFER pays us a percentage of the sale. You pay the same price you would pay going to the site directly — the commission comes out of OUFER's margin, not your total.
Some specifics, because "affiliate" gets used loosely:
- Only the pieces labelled OUFER in the jewelry tray have a shop link. The other pieces are generic illustrations and link nowhere.
- We are not paid to feature any particular piece, and commission plays no part in which pieces appear or the order they are shown in.
- We are not affiliated with, owned by, or speaking for OUFER. We have not been given these products, and nothing here is a review or an endorsement of them.
- Clicking the link hands you off to OUFER, whose own privacy policy, cookies and terms apply from that point. Your referral is tracked by OUFER, not by us — we receive no analytics, no order data, and no information about who clicked or what they bought. PiercedUp still stores nothing about you.
- A virtual try-on is an approximation. Fit, gauge, length and material are on the product page, and a professional piercer is the right check for anatomy.
This disclosure is made in line with the US FTC's Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising (16 CFR Part 255). It is repeated on the app itself, above the camera and next to the shop button, so it is visible before you click rather than only on this page.
Which browsers work?
Chrome 90+, Edge 90+, Firefox 100+, and Safari 15+ on both desktop and mobile. The app needs two things: camera access via WebRTC, and WebAssembly for the face-tracking model. Browsers older than these, and any browser with WebAssembly disabled, will load the page but not track. Camera access also requires the page be served over HTTPS, which GitHub Pages does.
PiercedUp is a try-on toy for seeing how jewelry might look. It is not medical advice, and it is not a substitute for talking to a professional piercer about anatomy, placement, or healing.
